MultiChoice Talent Factory Opens Applications for 2026 Film and TV Training Programme
MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF), the pan-African film and television training academy, has officially opened applications for its 2026 intake, offering aspiring African creatives a chance to receive fully funded industry-level training.
The programme is open to graduates across Africa who are interested in careers in directing, filmmaking, scriptwriting, production, and visual storytelling. Successful applicants will be enrolled in one of MTF’s accredited academies, where they will gain hands-on experience and professional mentorship.
Following MultiChoice’s integration into the CANAL+ group, the company has renewed its commitment to developing world-class African content. Central to this vision is empowering young Africans with the skills needed to tell authentic local stories while competing on a global stage.
The 2026 intake features a structured curriculum that blends theory with intensive practical learning. The nine-month programme is delivered through a hybrid model, combining interactive online sessions with in-person physical training to ensure students gain real-world production experience.
MTF operates academies in Kenya, Nigeria, and Zambia, serving participants from 14 African countries. Through these hubs, students receive professional training, industry exposure, and access to creative networks that prepare them for the highly competitive entertainment industry.
Since launching in 2018, the MultiChoice Talent Factory has trained 296 filmmakers and supported the production of more than 42 films. During the programme, students are guided by experienced industry professionals and are required to develop and produce original movie projects. These productions are broadcast on DStv and GOtv channels such as Africa Magic, Maisha Magic, and Zambezi Magic, as well as on the streaming platform Showmax.
Graduates of the programme have gone on to achieve notable success. Many alumni secure roles within the MultiChoice content ecosystem, while others establish independent careers. To date, more than 50 production companies have been founded by former MTF participants, highlighting the programme’s impact on Africa’s creative economy.
MTF’s emphasis on hyperlocal storytelling has also translated into international recognition. Alumni films and projects have received nominations and awards at major platforms including the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Kalasha Awards, Uganda Film Festival, and Women in Film Awards. Graduates have also collaborated with global creatives at events such as the European Film Market and Durban FilmMart.
These achievements underline the quality of training offered by the academy and its role in producing filmmakers capable of competing internationally while remaining rooted in African narratives. The skills gained through the programme continue to empower graduates to drive cultural growth and economic development within their communities.
